The Position

The Institute of Human Biology (IHB) at Roche in Basel, Switzerland, is offering an internship position for a motivated researcher to join our team. This internship provides an exciting opportunity to learn and contribute to IHB’s cutting-edge research using advanced 3D human organoid systems to model and explore human health and disease. Your research will involve the development of new tools for CRISPR screening in complex intestinal organoid models, involving co-cultures of epithelial and immune cells. These experiments aim at dissecting the roles of genetic drivers of intestinal transformation, and their role in modulating crosstalk with tissue-resident immune cells.

Your Profile

You are currently enrolled in a university M.Sc. program in relevant subjects such as immunology, molecular biology, bioengineering, or a related field, or you have completed your degree in the respective subjects within the past 12 months.

• You have experience in primary cell culture. Prior experience with the culture of complex human model systems, such as organoids, or primary immune cells is highly desirable.
• Prior experience with CRISPR tools, flow cytometry, microscopy, single-cell omics, and/or next generation sequencing (NGS), is highly desirable.
• You are able to plan and perform experiments independently including their thorough interpretation and efficient documentation.
• You are fluent in English and highly curious about science and are able to derive novel approaches and ideas from published literature. 
• You want to work in a highly collaborative environment where scientific exchange is highly valued.

Your impact

• Build workflows for genetic screening to dissect epithelial-immune interactions in complex human organoid models
• Study the role of specific genetic alterations (single-nucleotide variants, large chromosomal deletions) in intestinal tumorigenesis
• Interpret experimental data and report these in presentations and a written report to colleagues
