Basel/Zurich, Switzerland
In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
You will join Roche’s Institute of Human Biology, an organisation within pRED whose goal is to harness and advance the use of human model systems in drug discovery and development, as well as personalised medicine. Our interdisciplinary research bridges academic and pharmaceutical research, connecting biologists, engineers, and data scientists.
We partner and collaborate with leading scientific institutions worldwide to tackle grand challenges by assembling, funding, and leading interdisciplinary teams of experts to work on highly ambitious and complex scientific questions.
We are offering an outstanding opportunity for a talented scientist to contribute to our mission to disrupt the traditional drug discovery process by advancing more predictive human model systems. You will be responsible for establishing a patient-derived preclinical ex vivo model of multiple myeloma (MM) with key components of the tumor microenvironment. Of particular interest is the goal to recreate the immunosuppressive microenvironment that is a hallmark of MM and to extend the duration of culture of bone marrow aspirates from MM patients. You will be mentored by the Scientific Director of the Roche Institute of Human Biology, as well as a Group Lead and a full member of the Applied Organoid Technologies team at IHB. You will hence benefit from existing IHB know-how and innovative technologies to guide your model development and translational research (microtechnologies and bioengineering methods, organoids expertise, phenotyping and phenoscaping capabilities). Supported by a network of experts in pRED and Roche with clinical experience in this disease area, you will explore patient-relevant scientific hypotheses to test in the model(s) developed and will leverage this knowledge to improve and validate the assays.
The preferred start date of the PostDoc is October 2023, or upon availability, for a duration of two years. Please clearly indicate your preferred starting date on your motivation letter. The position could be based in Basel or Schlieren (Great Zürich area) depending on the candidate’s preference.
To be considered your application needs to include a cover letter, a CV (including a list of relevant publications) and the names of three references.
